Somatic movement is an education and you are the teacher and the learner. Somatic movement is you educating yourself about your body. You are showing yourself how you are being. What better form of self awareness is there? As I've said in many posts before, once you are aware of how you are being you can choose to make changes if you want to. You can't change what you're not aware of.
Bringing awareness to your body through the application of pandiculation, will help you physically feel where you are tight, not moving or have no awareness of. It will help you learn how to integrate your muscle patterning so that you can move with more control and co-ordination.
A pandiculation is a contraction of a muscle or muscle group, a conscious and slow release of the contraction followed by a pause. It's actually what we do naturally when we stretch or yawn, or if you've observed your pets doing the same when they get up from rest.
There is no right answer when it comes to this education. It is your conclusion about your own body, and what you choose to do with that information is endless. You don't even need to consciously decide what to do with that information. In the container of a somatic movement session you are guided to leave space to integrate that information on a deep level, below the level of your consciousness awareness
By bringing yourself into a place of constructive rest at the end of a session you allow space to absorb all of the information that you have gathered in your education session. The space of pausing to notice and allow information to integrate into your body is an essential part of the education process. I've also written more about that here.
